Overview
Established in late 1967, Luzerne County Community College is the largest college in northeastern Pennsylvania. The post-secondary institution is committed to providing stellar learning experiences for students and offers over 100 training programs to accommodate students' educational needs, including distance learning options. Current popular majors are Business Management Technology, Nursing, Computer Information Systems, Education, Criminal Justice and General Studies. In addition, it also has a large range of unique programs, such as Pastry Arts Management, Photography, Physical Education and Movement Science, and Fire Science Technology.
Student Appeal
LCCC has an incomparable reputation for rendering credit-free programs to students and possesses a wealth of computer access with over 900 computers that are situated in a network of academic labs. The diverse number of extracurricular activities for enrollees are another benefit for those interested in honor societies, cultural organizations and sports programs. Individuals in all age brackets are able to attend, ranging from recent high school graduates to professionals who are looking to advance in their existing careers. An open admissions policy exists, and those who desire to apply are only required to have a high school diploma or GED.
Accreditation
Several accrediting bodies support LCCC. As a whole, the community college is approved by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the Pennsylvania Department of Education. It's also recognized by many external commissions that accredit specialty training programs in nursing, dental assisting, surgical technology, and EMS.
