FAQs About University of North Dakota

Is the University of North Dakota Online?

Yes, UND offers online undergraduate and graduate degrees that are fully remote. Distance learners can enroll in programs at the certificate, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree levels. UND’s in-demand online programs include engineering, business, education, and general studies. Two online programs are available as (1) self-paced courses that take three to nine months to complete and (2) traditional semester-based courses that follow an academic year.

Are Online Degrees From the University of North Dakota Legitimate?

UND’s online degrees are legitimate because an accredited school confers them. Specifically, UND is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, an institutional accreditation agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Accreditation is an important marker of a school's legitimacy. This stamp of approval means that a school's academic programs are high quality and its financial practices are periodically reviewed to ensure they are ethical and deliver on promises to students. It also makes transferring credits from one accredited school to another possible. For these reasons, OnlineU only includes accredited online schools on its site.

What Is the University of North Dakota Known For?

UND is the state’s largest institution of higher learning. It has emerged as a STEM leader in engineering, medicine, aviation, space, and unmanned aircraft systems. For example, UND offers numerous online engineering programs in various disciplines at all academic levels — from certificates to doctoral degrees. It’s conceivable to start with an undergraduate certificate at UND and continue through to earning your PhD in the same field.

UND also serves the largest number of exclusively online students among flagship nonprofit schools in an eight-state region. It provides $1.7 billion in overall economic impact to the state and region.

Which Degrees at UND Provide the Highest Earnings for Graduates?

According to federal data from College Scorecard, UND’s online bachelor’s degrees in petroleum engineeringchemical engineering, and electrical engineering provide the highest earnings for graduates. They earn approximate median annual salaries of $91,200, $79,400, and $78,400, respectively. Next up, online civil and mechanical engineering graduates earn at least $73,000 annually just three years after graduation.

OnlineU’s proprietary Salary Score ranks colleges by how much their alumni earn compared to graduates with the same degree across the country. Out of 100, UND’s bachelor’s degrees have a salary score of 64, 57 for master’s degrees, and 40 for doctorates.

How Difficult Is It To Get Into UND?

Getting into UND is fairly easy, as it accepts 87% of applicants and does not require entrance exams. However, it’s recommended that applicants have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher. Also, it helps to have relatively high grades in English, math, lab science, and social studies.

What Are the Admission Requirements for UND?

UND’s admission requirements are comparable to any college and university. Applying to college always requires leaving yourself enough time to plan, gather what’s needed, and ask any questions that arise. Applying to UND is no different and requires first-year applicants to complete the following steps:

  • Open an online admission account
  • Complete an online application
  • Pay a $35 application fee
  • Submit high school or GED transcripts
  • Submit college and/or military transcripts, if applicable

Individual undergraduate degree programs and graduate degree programs may have additional requirements. Connecting with an admissions advisor can help with this process to ensure you have what’s needed.
