Overview
University of the Southwest is an educational community dedicated to developing men and women for a lifetime of servant leadership by emphasizing individual faith, responsibility, and initiative. Founded in Hobbs, New Mexico in 1956 as a two-year junior college, the University of Southwest now offers distance learning to students all over the world, delivering courses online with Blackboard and CAMS-Enterprise course management. The school features online Bachelors degrees and Masters in Education degree programs with emphasis in more than 10 tracks from Curriculum and Instruction to Special Education. An online MBA program was announced and added in 2009 to complement the array.

Student Appeal
Students can enjoy the benefits of quality education without ever stepping foot on the campus. The coursework is online, but their practicums can be completed in their own community. Courses are enhanced with e/pop web conferencing and MediaCAST, and as of fall 2008, Interactive Video Delivery classes are active and in session.

Financial
Federal financial aid programs, such as Federal PELL Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, SMART Grant, Academic Competitiveness Grant, TEACH Grant, and parent/student loans, are available to qualified students. In addition, for New Mexico residents, the Student Choice Act provides grant funds for students who attend private institutions within the State, and the New Mexico Student Incentive Grant provides funds for needy students. USW also awards institutional scholarships for academic accomplishment and student involvement opportunities.
